Monday's 5.2 magnitude temblor marked another success for California's early earthquake warning system, with users in some areas saying they got notifications on their phone before they felt shaking.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 hit Southern California on Monday morning. Experts with the Seismological Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology said the quake was recorded at 10:08 a.m. PT near Julian, California.

The temblor was centered about 2.5 miles south of Julian, according to initial reports from the U.S. Geological Survey.
