A new resolution introduced in the Georgia Senate seeks to honor the late President Jimmy Carter by placing his statue in the National Statuary Hall of the U.S. Capitol.

The lawmaker is proposing replacing the current statue of Alexander H. Stephens, a Confederate leader and 50th governor of Georgia.

The proposal aims to replace the existing statue of Alexander Hamilton Stephens, a former vice president of the Confederacy.
