Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi on Saturday reviewed the security measures taken at Anna University in Chennai following the recent case of alleged sexual assault of a student inside the campus.Governor Ravi addressed student concerns and assured them immediate and decisive actions will be taken to safeguard the university community.

The safety and well-being of the students were non-negotiable, he said and instructed the university administration to take immediate action on the safety and security issues raised by the students.

BJP leader Annamalai protested against the Tamil Nadu government by whipping himself, citing ongoing injustices. He vowed to fast for 48 days and not wear footwear until the ruling party is removed.

The accused entered the campus and sexually assaulted the second-year student behind a building after thrashing a male student, who was accompanying her.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the sexual assault of a 19-year-old Anna University student in Chennai, the National Commission for Women condemned the attack. The commission also highlighted police negligence and directed action for stricter punishment and protection for the victim.
