U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio left El Salvador on Tuesday with an agreement from that country's president to accept deportees from the U.S. of any nationality, including violent American criminals now imprisoned in the United States.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Monday that El Salvador has offered to accept deportees of any nationality from the U.S., including incarcerated American citizens that would be held in the country’s maximum-security prison.

El Salvador has offered to take in people deported from the U.S. for entering the country illegally as well as the country’s violent criminals — even if they’re American citizens
