Australia women's soccer captain Sam Kerr said she felt British police treated her differently because of the colour of her skin, as she gave evidence in a London court on Wednesday while on trial accused of racially abusing a white police officer.

Chelsea striker Sam Kerr has denied that calling a police officer “white” was used as an insult as she was cross-examined during her trial in London on a charge of racially aggravated harassment.

Australia women's soccer captain Sam Kerr went on trial in a London court on Monday, accused of racially abusing a white police officer after a drunken dispute with a cab driver.

Kerr, 31, ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a winter training camp with Chelsea back in January 2023. For high performance athletes, time spent off the pitch with an ACL injury usually ranges between 8-12 months. With Februrary now in full swing, Kerr has commenced her 13th month of extraneous knee recovery.

The 31-year-old Kerr, who is one of the top women’s soccer players in the world, is on trial charged with causing racially aggravated harassment to Metropolitan Police officer Pc Stephen Lovell during an incident in south-west London, in the early hours of Jan. 30 2023.
