French President Emmanuel Macron’s office announced a new government Monday, after the previous Cabinet collapsed in a historic vote prompted by fighting over the country’s budget.

France unveiled a new government on Monday, comprised of former ministers and senior civil servants that Prime Minister Francois Bayrou will hope can oversee the passage of a 2025 budget and avoid a collapse that would deepen the country's crisis.

Despite the conventionally accepted definition for such behavior, France’s new premier Francois Bayrou vowed to sharply narrow the nation’s deficit to close to 5% of GDP, threatening a repeat of the standoff which toppled the last government.
