The New York City Council speaker and immigrant advocates are slamming direction from the mayor to city workers about how they should interact with federal immigration agents.

The move follows confusion over earlier guidance, which critics said ran afoul of the city's sanctuary city protections.

The move follows outrage from labor leaders and local Democrats who found the city’s previous guidance too permissive to President Donald Trump’s immigration agents.
