Ohio firefighters are in California in response to the state’s request for additional help to fight ongoing wildfires. Ohio sent nine members of its fire management team from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to help California firefighters after fire managers in southern California requested additional resources late last week.

Nine firefighters from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry will spend 14 days in Southern California.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced that a fire management crew has been dispatched to California to help battle the devastating wildfires.

The crew is expected to begin work Monday. California fire managers requested their help for 14 days. A typical daily shift lasts between 14 to 16 hours. “Our fire management crews train year-round to be prepared to step up when called upon,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz said in the statement.

Ohio sent a nine-person fire management team to assist with California wildfires after Governor DeWine answered a call for aid. The team was ready with gear and equipment for a two-week support mission.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKBN) – Ohio forestry crews are heading to California to help with the wildfires. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced Friday that he has dispatched a nine-person fire management team from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

According to a release from the governor’s office, fire managers in southern California sent out a request for additional resources on Thursday. In response, DeWine ordered a team from ODNR’s Division of Forestry in Columbus to Beaumont, California. Southern California has been facing constant challenges in controlling the fires.
