Democrats and Republicans have elected their candidates for the April 1 special election to fill the seat vacated by Michael Waltz.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Rep. Michael Waltz, a Florida representative, is expected to resign from Congress today to take up his new role as President Trump’s national security advisor, a source familiar with his plans tells ABC News. According to the source, the house clerk read his resignation letter this morning and Waltz officially resigned.

Polls will open at 7 a.m. Tuesday in Escambia, Okaloosa and Santa Rosa Counties for the special primary election. Ten Republican candidates are on the ballot to fill the vacant Florida District 1 seat in Congress formerly held by Matt Gaetz.

Three Republicans are on primary ballots throughout Florida's 6th Congressional District, including Flagler and part of Volusia counties.
