Blocking portions of Signal on X is weird but it’s also in keeping with how Elon Musk has run the business. The social media platform has restricted links to outside sites like Mastodon, Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky for years. He often suspends accounts that are critical of him or his operations.

So much for free speech, huh. Elon Musk’s X is reportedly preventing users from posting links to the popular encrypted messaging app, Signal.

It appears X (formerly Twitter) users can once again send Signal.me links, two days after the blog Disruptionist first reported a block. The platform wasn't allowing links of the URL used by encrypted messaging service Signal — it allows people to quickly contact others directly.

Binder wrote in his Disruptionist newsletter Sunday that links to Signal.me, a domain that offers a way to connect directly to Signal users, are blocked on public posts, direct messages, and profile pages.
