Illinois Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker says the state follows the law. President Donald Trump has often singled out Chicago and Illinois, which have some of the strongest sanctuary laws in the U.S.

The lawsuit comes as Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson is expected to testify before the House Oversight Committee next month.

The U.S. Department of Justice is suing Illinois and Chicago, arguing that their immigration policies interfere with federal enforcement efforts.
