TORONTO (AP) — The Liberal Party has won the federal election in Canada, culminating a process marked by U.S. President Donald Trump threats on a trade war and of making the country the 51st American state.

Following Elections Canada’s standard validation of results, Conservative Kathy Borrelli’s lead over Liberal Irek Kusmierczyk shrunk from 233 votes to 77 — a mere seven ballots away from the threshold for an automatic judicial recount.
