Instead of replying, "I love you too", reply with, "I love you" * Its a slight subtle difference that suggests "I love you and I feel that way now as much as ever" rather than, "I love you, and I'm only bothering to tell you because you told me first". You're still reciprocating the sentiment, but at least for me it feels more genuine.

Mar 9, 2021 · I wish there were a "te quiero" in english. A loose "I love you" used for friends. I feel really uncomfortable saying I love you to close friends. It feels too intimate for the context. Plus, were there a lighthearted alternative it would make "I love you" feel more intimate in these more intimate contexts.
