Dec 15, 2022 · Weird thing to note for those in Somerville: They use a system where you can only park one side of the street each year (even or odd side base on the year, so even for the 22-23 season.) When they declare a snow emergency, you have to move your car to that side of the street or a municipal lot (which is free during a snow emergency.)

Dec 11, 2022 · There are different levels of “emergency”. “Enough to plow” (an inch or two of slush or snow) is where the emergency will be declared for purposes of street parking. But businesses, schools, and government buildings will still be open. When it hits a foot or two, some of those will close, but people can still go out and about.

The non-snow-emergency street spots fill up and if that happens people are stuck parking in the city lots, which are much further away.
